Street Art in action

While walking to the town festivities today, we saw street artists at work... the town's collection is growing and that's simply great.

Vitry famous for its street art, come visit!

I wanted to point out an article on Le Parisien Val de Marne on my town Vitry as a renowned street art town...

Article Here...

In brief, you will see in Vitry more than 400 paintings, from around 50 artists who come from all over Europe to paint in Vitry and even from South America... Aren't we a privileged bunch of people here?

I'm on my way to the town's annual Lilac Festival - yesterday we had Michel Fugain, French singer, who gave a concert in the park behind my house and the night ended by fabulous fireworks...  Today we have local organisations in the park showcasing their work and selling stuff and food to fund their activities. It's a great way to see what's going on in different areas of the town - helping the poor, dance or music activities, sewing, children's activities etc. etc. It all ends by a parade in the afternoon... that will be in another post!

Sablé au Citron

Yesterday our boulangerie had this new Sablé au Citron that we decided to try. It was perfect with just enough lemon but not too acid and the crust was crumbly and not too sweet. It's price 1.70 euro stands in between the "cakes" which range around 2.50 euros and the croissants, pain au chocolat which are around 1,35. The baguette at my boulangerie costs 90 cents.

Robin Hobb in Paris today!

For all Robin Hobb's fans, she'll be at the FNAC bookstore St Lazare in Paris for some signing today at 6 p.m. Snif.. I won't be able to go there as I'm working and I guess there will be crowds of people to greet her. So welcome to Paris Robin Hobb and thanks for the great work!
The worlds she creates are so wonderful and the characters so "real" that when I start one of her books, I will use every spare time available to read and read and read... Luckily enough I discovered her recently as I'm a recent fantasy reader and did not have to wait for months the get yet the next publication of the Farseer Trilogy or the Liveship Traders Trilogy... I haven't read Soldier Son's Trilogy - I'm keeping it for summer vacations. My daughter has bought them already.
One thing publishing foreign books here in France that's not nice is the fact that publishers will take a trilogy and split it up in several volumes... yes it's all for the money they can make... So the Farseer Trilogy represents in fact 6 volumes in the French edition, while The Liveship Traders Trilogy comes into 9 volumes and then the Tawny Man Trilogy is 7 more books. Same thing applies for a lot of foreign books, and it costs a fortune for us readers and would take up a lots of place on your bookshelves. As for our home, we bought a couple of volumes and finally read the books from the municipal library - we have a great library... I've ordered the French version of The Rain Wild Chronicles and I guess the library will be buying them pretty soon as they have many Robin Hobb fans!

Jetman at Grand Canyon

Who wouldn't want to be in the place of Jetman as he flies over Grand Canyon? This Swiss pilot uses a jet suit he designed and soared at 190 mph some 200 feet about canyon rim at the Hualapai reservation on May 7, 2011 (see article) ! That's a bit fast to be able to admire the view, isn't it? I'll enjoy the view from the Skywalk next time I'm able to visit Grand Canyon National Park...

Friday night sunset curry

Yes it's Friday night and we're having chicken and eggplant curry with white rice. And I used an image of a calendar from Mauritius for the "sunset" feature... I use a home-made Mauritian curry - I actually have two versions: a hot and a mild one... My brother buys them at a special place he knows... Just the perfect dinner after a long and busy week!
